They’re awesome to make for meal prep too, so you can enjoy them for lunches or dinners throughout the week. Hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
Making healthy burger bowls
I love these because they’re super customizable. I wrote the recipe based on the toppings I would normally put on my burger, but you can totally add or subtract ingredients depending on what you like. While I make this recipe with ground beef, you can substitute turkey, chicken, tofu, etc. to make it fit your diet! To make these, I used:
For the burger meat:
- Lean ground beef
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt, pepper, garlic powder
- Grated onion (grating it is key!)
Just grate the onion into the meat and season. Spray a skillet over medium high heat with cooking spray and cook until meat is done (7-8 min, no pink remaining). Set aside.
Toppings:
- Chopped romaine lettuce (which is really your base)
- Tomato
- Avocado
- Fat free cheddar cheese
- Pickles
- Other great toppings would be: chopped red onion, caramelized onions, pickled jalapeños, micro greens, etc!
Clean and chop your veggies. Create a base of romaine and top with ground beef mixture and all of your toppings.
Burger sauce:
- Light mayo
- Ketchup
- Dijon mustard
- Dill pickle relish
- Worcestershire sauce
- Dash of hot sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Combine all the burger sauce ingredients together and mix until fully combined. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Add a dollop to your burger bowls and enjoy!
