If there’s one thing I love about spring baking, it’s how simple and playful everything feels. No complicated layers, no hours in the kitchen—just fun, festive treats that look adorable and taste even better. These Chocolate Pretzel Bird Nests are exactly that kind of recipe. They’re no-bake, come together in minutes, and somehow manage to look like you spent way more effort than you actually did.

There’s something about that sweet-and-salty combo that never misses, and this recipe leans all the way in. Crunchy pretzels get coated in smooth melted chocolate with just a hint of peanut butter for richness, then shaped into little nests and topped with candy eggs. It’s giving spring, it’s giving Easter, and it’s giving “accidentally ate three while plating them.” My bad.

I also love how approachable these are. You don’t need any special equipment, and there’s zero precision required. The pretzels don’t have to be perfectly broken, the nests don’t have to look identical—in fact, the more rustic they look, the more they actually resemble little bird nests. It’s one of those recipes that’s almost impossible to mess up.

These Chocolate Pretzel Bird Nests are perfect for Easter baskets, spring parties, or just a fun afternoon treat. They’re easy enough to make with kids, great for gifting, and ideal if you want something festive without turning on the oven. Plus, they store well in the fridge, so you can make them ahead and have a ready-to-go sweet snack whenever you need it.

Making Chocolate Pretzel Bird Nests

The process couldn’t be simpler, but a few tips help get that perfect nest shape. Start by breaking your pretzels into smaller pieces. You’re not going for crumbs—just shorter sticks that will tangle together easily when coated in chocolate.

Next comes the chocolate mixture. Melting the chocolate chips with a little peanut butter makes everything smoother and easier to work with, while also adding a subtle richness that balances out the salty pretzels. Once it’s fully melted and glossy, pour it over the pretzels and mix until every piece is coated.

When forming the nests, use a spoon to scoop out portions and place them onto parchment paper. Try to keep them fairly compact so the chocolate can hold everything together as it sets. While the chocolate is still soft, gently press the candy eggs into the center of each nest. This step is key—it helps the eggs stick and completes that classic “bird nest” look.

After a quick chill in the fridge or freezer, the chocolate hardens and everything sets into place. What you’re left with is a crunchy, chocolatey, sweet-and-salty treat that’s as cute as it is addictive.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Microwave

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup mini pretzel sticks broken into thirds
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp peanut butter
  • 24 Cadbury or mini candy eggs

Instructions

  • Break the pretzel sticks into thirds, keeping the pieces slightly uneven for a more natural texture.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter and heat for 60 seconds on high, then stir until completely smooth. If needed, continue heating in 10-second increments, stirring between each, until fully melted.
  • Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the pretzels and mix until all of the pieces are evenly coated.
  • Line a baking sheet or cutting board with parchment paper. Use a tablespoon to scoop and drop 8 clusters onto the parchment, shaping them into tight nest-like mounds so the chocolate helps bind them together.
  • Place 3 candy eggs onto each nest, gently pressing them in so they stick to the chocolate.
  • Transfer to the fridge for 1.5 to 2 hours or the freezer for about 30 minutes, until the chocolate is fully set. Enjoy!
